Abstract

What was the social structure of pre-Roman communities in Central-Adriatic Italy? Cemeteries suggest that a strong social hierarchy developed during the Bronze and Iron Ages (ca. 2000-400 BC), yet settlements remain small-scale and there are few indications for complex state formation. This project investigates daily social organization of these communities by the spatial analysis of settlements, using non-invasive prospection techniques.
