Liselotte Sels (1981, Belgium) is a postdoctoral researcher affiliated to Ghent University. In October 2014, she obtained her PhD in Art Science at Ghent University. Her dissertation was titled “Türkü and Halay Between Ghent and Turkey: An Ethnographic Study of Turkish Folk Music in a Transnational Context”. From December 2014 tot December 2015 she was a visiting postdoctoral scholar at University of California, Santa Barbara, financed by a fellowship / research grant of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation. Currenty, she works as a part time researcher at the School of Arts of AP University College Antwerp, where she also studies the harpsichord and fortepiano. Besides her academic activities, works as a pianist, harpsichordist, fortepiano player, and continuo player. She is a Master in Art Science (Musicology) and Musical Performance (Piano).
Liselotte has taught diverse subjects at University College Ghent and Artevelde University College Ghent, including Ethnic Music, Theoretical Seminars, Art Philosophy, 20th-century music History, Piano, and Piano Accompaniment. She is experienced in teaching research methodology and mentoring bachelor and master students. At AP University College, she has taught a class on Ethnomusicology and Iranian music.
