I am a PhD Fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders at the Department of Literary Studies working on a doctoral thesis that deals with the works of Edward W. Said, a leading Palestinian-American public intellectual and founding figure of the critical field of postcolonial studies. I analyse his critical practice in general and the theoretical intertexts informing his approach to cultural analysis more broadly, and his conceptualisation of literature and agency in particular. My research is situated at the intersection between literary and political studies and deals not only with literary and cultural theory, but also with topics of geopolitical interest, cultural diversity and decolonization. My main research interests are literary theory, theoretical genealogies, existentialism and its legacy, and debates on structure vs. agency.
