I am an associate professor in ethics and political philosophy at the University of Ghent. My current research project, The Ethics of Loneliness', is supported by an ERC Starting Grant.
Besides loneliness and sociability, my research interests include e.g. migration; cultural and religious diversity; political extremism; social taboos, friendship; love; end-of-life care; family ethics; and medical ethics. My work has appeared in journals such as Ratio; Journal of Applied Philosophy; Politics, Philosophy and Economics; Journal of Medical Ethics; Bioethics; Ethical Theory and Moral Practice; Criminal Law & Philosophy; Ethics and Information Technology; Southern Journal of Philosophy; Human Rights Review; Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal; Ethnicities; Journal of Controversial Ideas; Moral Philosophy and Politics; Res Publica; Journal of Bioethical Inquiry; Nursing Ethics; and Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy.
I was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Zurich (Switzerland); Umea University (Sweden); KU Leuven (Belgium); and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen (Germany). During my PhD at the EU, I was a visiting student research collaborator at Princeton University.
