Guylian Nemegeer is a postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University and the Academia Belgica. He wrote a PhD dissertation on the symbolisation of the Renaissance in Gabriele d'Annunzio's cultural nationalism. His research mainly focuses on the discourses and ideologies that shaped French and Italian literature and culture from the late 19th-century onwards. More specifically, he investigates the interaction between national identity discourses and ideas of Europe in the run-up to the First World War. He is also interested in contemporary European authors’ politics of literature. His work has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals, such as The Italianist, Romance Quarterly, Language and Literature and Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction.
