Lieselot Tuytens is a PhD researcher at the Department of Literary Studies at Ghent University. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Literature: English-Dutch in 2017 and a master's degree in 2018, both at Ghent University. Afterwards she did a one-year preparatory course followed by a Master in Communication Science — Main Subject Journalism (2019-2020, Ghent University). Her research interests include South African literature by women, feminism and intersectionality. These topics are also reflected in the project she is working on funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO): 'Challenging Crossroads: A Critical Discourse Analysis on the Intersections of Race, Gender, Class, Ethnicity, Sexuality and Ensuing Discursive Counterreactions in Female Apartheid Narratives.' This project focuses on the oppressions and inequalities which South African women experienced during the apartheid era by adopting an intersectional lens combined with a critical discourse analytical approach. The text corpus consists of 6 literary works from the 1970s and 1990s by 3 authors: Miriam Tlali, Nadine Gordimer and Welma Odendaal.
