I am a doctoral researcher at the Dutch Linguistics department at Ghent University, currently working on a comparative description of the phonetics of Surinamese Dutch under the supervision of Anne-Sophie Ghyselen. I did my bachelors (BA Linguistics) and masters (rMA Linguistics and Communication) degrees at the University of Amsterdam, where I specialized in phonology and phonological typology.
My broader research interests include:
- The interface between phonetics and phonology
- Opaque phonology
- Development of tools to accelerate data annotation and analysis
Some specific topics I've been interested in include:
- Various phonological intricacies within southern Franconian lects (such as the moet-moed split and the ghost-t).
- Straddlers: speech sounds that pattern simultaneously as both sonorants and obstruents.
- Descriptive phonetics of Macedonian
I am also active in the research group EmpiPhon.
