Abstract

By examining the artwork and relevant examples from the media, the objective of this project is to give insight into contemporary art practices interwoven with the idea of terrorism or what it implies: insecurity, fear, conflict, war. In the last decade, since the destruction of the WTC on September 11th 2001, there is an increased number of art works that address the mentioned themes by questioning the issue of credibility of Western democracy, the manipulation of world politics and its politicians, the role of religion in modern society, as well as the importance of globalization in culture and art at the dawn of the new millennium. Artists recognize the crisis of the current times thanks to a variety of contemporary art practices, and imagine things differently, out of which artworks are created with energy of new ideas and charged with intriguing thoughts.
