While ancient Greek literary texts have been extensively studied, non-literary sources such as papyri have not received the same attention. This project aims to explore novel approaches to these sources:
(i) Digitally driven: Building on previous research, particularly the Everyday Writing project, the project seeks to advance digital methods and refine machine learning techniques for analyzing ancient languages.
(ii) Multimodal: Utilizing high-quality digital images, the project will examine the correlation between pragmatic and visual structures in ancient documents, leveraging the latest digital methods.
(iii) Comparative: The project will explore affinities between 'non-literary' and 'literary' corpora of Greek, and compare with related texts in other ancient languages.
By developing these perspectives, the project aims to reassess ancient literacies, understanding the repertoire of ancient writers and its evolution.
