Saarthak Singh is an associate professor of South Asian art at the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) and research associate at the Department of Languages & Cultures at Ghent University. He was a junior postdoctoral fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), having received his Ph.D. in History of Art & Archaeology from New York University in 2023. His research focuses on the architectural and landscape history of medieval towns in central India, and more broadly, on Indic and Islamic epigraphy, fortification and urbanism, material cultures of pilgrimage, and constructions of difference in premodern times. He has published articles on a range of subjects, including monumental Hindu sculpture, Islamic talismanic shirts, Sanskrit and Hindi inscriptions, and purpose-built performance spaces.
