Xue Dong is a PhD student at Ghent University, specializing in cross-linguistic and cross-cultural studies. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Liaoning University in 2017 and her Master’s in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from Renmin University of China in 2020. From 2020 to 2024, Xue served as Director of Operations at an art media company in Shanghai, where she negotiated business deals with clients including art galleries, museums, international brands, and commercial real estate.
Her research focuses on the influence of linguistic and cultural factors on expressions of pain in English and Chinese, particularly in the context of language learners and healthcare communication. Xue aims to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps by enhancing multilingual pain assessment tools in healthcare, ultimately contributing to improved patient care, language acquisition, and cross-cultural communication.
