Els De Paermentier is associate professor at the Department of History at Ghent University. In 2010 she obtained her PhD on the Charter production and the organisation of the comital chancery in Flanders and Hainaut (1191-1244) (supervisor: Thérèse de Hemptinne). Her main research field includes documentary writing practices in secular and ecclesiastical institutions in the Low Countries during the 12th and 13th centuries. Additionally she is working on female lordship and aristocratic patronage within the same period and area. Much of her research is based on qualitative and quantitative text analysis of digitized charters recorded in the historical database Diplomata Belgica.
