This dissertation will interrogate the possibilities of blending literary trauma theory with ecocriticism to arrive at a new hermeneutics for reading, where human and environmental trauma are not viewed as necessarily separate. My project will reflect the increasing attention paid towards environmental issues in literature and revitalize discussions on new applications for literary trauma theory in an African and diasporic context.
