This project studies the system of translation in Russian émigré journals (1919-1939) in different émigré communities in Europe and Asia. The aim of this research is to investigate the different ways in which the emigrant communities in the various host countries dealt with foreign-language literary works and their translation. This contrastive research offers insight into the cultural identity (and to what extent foreign literature is/can be an aspect of this) of the Russian emigrant communities, with special attention to the local and the cultural stratification.
