Maxime is a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the Centre for Diversity and Learning at Ghent University, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Department of Linguistics. She is currently working on the project "Actualisatie Toolkits Breed Evalueren Taalcompetentie Nederlands Lager en Secundair Onderwijs".
From 2019 to 2024, she worked on her PhD titled "Beyond One Language: An Intervention Study in Supporting Teachers to Create Multilingual Policies in Secondary Classrooms." This research focused on how teachers can be supported in implementing multilingual pedagogies to do justice to the linguistic diversity in their classrooms. Conducted in Flanders, Belgium, the study examined how Functional Multilingual Learning (FML) can shift teachers' beliefs and practices towards embracing multilingualism. During the intervention, five teachers participated in workshops where they learned practical strategies for integrating students' home languages into their teaching practice. The results showed that professional development can help teachers create a more inclusive learning environment, although challenges such as monolingual ideologies and practical barriers remain.
