Alexandra Sanchez holds a BA and MA in English and Spanish Literature and Linguistics from VUB, as well as an Advanced BA in Applied Audiovisual Communication from Thomas More. She also earned an Advanced MA in Literary Studies from KU Leuven, an Advanced MA in European Studies from UCL/BICC, and a PhD in Translation Studies from KU Leuven. Her doctoral research focused on the representation of migration in documentary film, culminating in her monograph Discourses of Migration in Documentary Film: Translating the Real to the Reel (2022).
Now, as an Assistant Professor of Audiovisual Translation, Alexandra continues to explore how audiovisual products serve as cultural artifacts, translating complex ideologies to and from the screen. In her work, she also examines how policies and intercultural mediation influence these transfer processes, with a keen interest in subtitling, dubbing, audio description, and beyond.
