Alexandra Sanchez is an Assistant Professor affiliated with the Spanish section of the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication. She holds a BA and MA in English and Spanish Literature and Linguistics from VUB, as well as an Advanced BA in Applied Audiovisual Communication from Thomas More. She earned Advanced Master’s degrees in Literary Studies (KU Leuven) and European Studies (UCL/BICC) before completing a PhD in Translation Studies at KU Leuven. Her doctoral research on the audiovisual transfer of migration in documentary film culminated in the monograph Discourses of Migration in Documentary Film: Translating the Real to the Reel (2022).
She teaches a broad range of courses that explore the dynamics of audiovisual, interlingual, and intercultural mediation. In her research, she examines the intersections of identity, resistance, and narrative in audio/visual content. She is particularly interested in how such content circulates globally, is reinterpreted in new contexts, and generates alternative imaginaries of connection and solidarity.
