The Research Group German Literature has a strong and continuous record in promoting doctoral dissertations and attracting research funding: it has been host to a steady and considerable amount of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Its research covers the period roughly from the late 18th to the 21st century. In terms of research methodology, priority is given to a close (hermeneutic, narratological and rhetorical) reading of texts in combination with the theoretical reflection of the preconditions of such a reading as well as ideological and philosophical aspects.

De onderzoeksgroep Duitse letterkunde (GermanLit) heeft een sterke en ononderbroken staat van dienst wat doctoraten en onderzoeksfinanciering betreft: zij heeft een gestaag en aanzienlijk aantal doctoraatsstudenten en postdoctorale onderzoekers mogen ontvangen.

Het onderzoek richt zich in het bijzonder op de literatuur vanaf de late 18e eeuw tot vandaag. Qua onderzoeksmethodologie wordt voorrang gegeven aan een close (hermeneutische, narratologische, rhetorische) lezing van teksten in combinatie met een theoretische reflectie op de randvoorwaarden van een dergelijke lezing (retorica, narratologie, receptietheorie…). Ook ideologische en filosofische aspecten van de tekst staan daarbij centraal.
