HPIMS - Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies (History) is the group name for the researchers at Ghent University's Department of History involved in the study of medieval society and culture. Their research covers a broad range of interests, including diplomatics and palaeography, socio-economic processes and the study of medieval landscapes, religious culture and society, gender, ritual, institutional and urban history, political ideology and discourse, DH-applications and development, and the Burgundian state. This group of people with an affiliation to the Department of History, is closely connected to the larger Pirenne Consortium, which bring together everyone at Ghent University working on the Middle Ages, across faculties and departments, to advance interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative research and societal impact.
